SALT LAKE CITY — Around 140 eager entrepreneurs from the University of Utah piled into the Spencer Fox Eccles Business Building Thursday for a chance to appear on the television show, "Shark Tank."
Students, staff, faculty and alumni sent in their applications, with a detailed description of their inventions, for an opportunity to get an individual, one-minute pitch meeting with a producer.
Kari Goris, the creator of The Diaper Swiper (thediaperswiper.com), has invested $71,000 of her own money into her product, she said, and now she's ready for "Shark Tank."
“When my little girl was 9 months old, she started running — literally running — and wouldn't even hold still for her diaper changes,” Goris said, explaining how The Diaper Swiper was born. “The Diaper Swiper allows the parent to attach the comfortable straps to the baby’s ankles, hold in the middle of the diaper swiper, then you can adequately control the pelvis from shifting left to right when they try to get up.”
Goris was just one of around 140 in line at the University of Utah to interview for a chance to be on the show. The applicants find out in two to three weeks if they made the cut.
Auditions will be open to the public on Friday April 17, at Salt Lake Community College Student Center, 4600 S. Redwood Rd. Numbered wristbands will be given out promptly at 9 a.m. and the interviews begin at 10 a.m.
