BOUNTIFUL — Reconstruction of the 400 North bridge over I-15 in Bountiful will begin this weekend, according to the Utah Department of Transportation.

Work on this phase of the I-15 South Davis Improvements Project will begin with bridge demolition the night of Saturday, April 18, with southbound I-15 closed at Legacy Parkway in Farmington, and northbound I-15 closed at 400 North in Bountiful, at 11 p.m.

On Sunday, April 19, at 11 a.m., I-15 will reopen with two lanes in each direction, with all lanes expected to be open by 3 p.m.

During the closure, southbound I-15 traffic will be diverted to Legacy Parkway in Farmington, and northbound traffic will use the 400 North off-ramp to 500 West, where traffic will divert back on to I-15.

The southbound on-ramps to I-15 from U.S. 89, Park Lane, Lagoon Drive, Parrish Lane, and 400 North will also be closed, diverting all traffic to Legacy Parkway. During the closure, crews will also perform concrete panel replacement in the southbound lanes between Farmington and Centerville.

Additional I-15 reconstruction will occur April 17-19. I-15 will be restricted to one lane in each direction from I-215 to 500 South in Bountiful while crews remove the lane splits near 2600 South.

Heavy congestion on I-15 is anticipated, and motorists with time-sensitive travel should use alternate routes. UDOT recommends Legacy Parkway as an alternative to the freeway, and U.S. 89 or Redwood Road for local traffic.

Reconstruction of the 400 North bridge is expected to take about four months to complete. There will be no east/west access over I-15 beginning April 17. Local traffic can use Pages Lane or 500 South.

The 400 North on- and off-ramps to I-15 will remain open during the day, but there will be intermittent nighttime ramp closures throughout reconstruction.

The end of the two-year improvement project is only several months away. UDOT is adding express lanes in both directions from North Salt Lake to Farmington. Once it's completed, UDOT will have the longest Express lanes in the country, according to John Gleason, UDOT spokesman.

Crews are also rebuilding three interchanges, including this one at 400 North Bountiful.

Further north, at Antelope Drive, the interchange bridge over I-15 will be closed Friday night at 9 p.m. and will remain closed until 7 a.m. Monday.

The interchange ramps will stay open, however, while UDOT repairs the concrete surface.

To the south in Springville, southbound I-15 traffic will narrow to one lane Saturday night at 9 p.m. for pavement maintenance.

UDOT expects long delays throughout Sunday.

Those restrictions in Springville will remain in effect until Monday morning when one more lane will re-open, with a lane split for continued work next week.

The entire Davis County project will wrap up in late summer.
