AMALGA, Cache County — Three siblings were injured, one critically, after they were ejected in a rollover in their parents' vehicle.
Police were called to the rural farming area of Amalga about 11 p.m. Monday on a report of a rollover accident. When deputies arrived, they found a 19-year-old man and 16-year-old girl standing outside the vehicle attempting to give aid to their 12-year-old sister who was thrown from the vehicle during the accident, said Cache County Sheriff's Lt. Brian Locke.
Locke described the young girl's injuries as "life threatening" when she was taken by medical helicopter to Primary Children's Hospital. None of the occupants were wearing seat belts.
Locke did not immediately know what kind of vehicle the children were driving. He said it was believed to be their parents' vehicle. Whether the children had permission to use it or whether they took the vehicle without their parents' knowledge was also still under investigation Tuesday, Locke said.
The 16-year-old sister who was driving the vehicle did not have a license, he said.
The 19-year-old and 16-year-old were taken by ambulances to a local hospital to be treat for injuries they suffered from hitting the windshield, Locke said. The names of the siblings were not immediately released. The cause of the accident was still being investigated Tuesday. Alcohol was not believed to be a factor.
