MILLCREEK — Two people were arrested Monday night by the Unified police SWAT team in connection with the attempted murder of a 15-year-old boy.

On Saturday, the teenager was shot following a confrontation with three others at 4090 S. 300 East.

The victim was among a trio of young men walking behind another group of four males when words were exchanged, according to police. One of the men in the group of four turned around and fired a gun at the trio. The 15-year-old victim was taken to a local hospital in serious condition.

Police said Tuesday the shooting was gang-related. Three of the men in the group of four were wearing blue shirts, according to a Salt Lake County Jail report. One of the men in the group of three was wearing red shorts.

The "gang-related confrontation" included "throwing gang signs and yelling at each other which escalated into the shooting in the middle of the road in a crowded neighborhood," the report states.

The victim was shot in the chest.

About 10:30 p.m. Monday, a SWAT team served a search warrant at 3676 W. Bawden Ave. (4195 South). Inside the house, officers arrested Anthony "Tone Loc" Peneger, 20, and another 15-year-old boy.

Peneger is believed to be the shooter in Saturday's altercation. He was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of attempted murder. The 15-year-old, whose name was not released, was booked into juvenile detention for investigation of causing a riot.

Two other suspects, ages 18 and 17, turned themselves in to Unified police detectives later Tuesday. After questioning, investigators "released these suspects as there is no evidence to hold them criminally responsible for this shooting," Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal said.
