DRAPER — A two-car accident with minor injuries closed I-15 for just under two hours Saturday morning.

At about 4:40 a.m., the accident occurred in the southbound lanes at the beginning of a construction zone, which starts just after 12300 South, police said. The wreck occurred when a silver Mitsubishi Galant slowed with traffic and a white Chevrolet Trailblazer did not, then the Trailblazer to slammed into the back of the Galant.

The accident caused debris to spread across all travel lanes and the Galant to catch fire, which caused the lane shutdowns, according to police. The driver of the Galant, Aliilotolelei Vaofusi, 28, escaped his car before it caught fire. The fire eventually engulfed the car.

The driver of the Trailblazer was identified as Nichole Weems, 48, who was afterwards arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence, police said.

Cars driving southbound were forced to exit at 12300 South and travel up the frontage road, where they were able to re-enter I-15 at the Bangerter entrance.

Both drivers were initially transported to Lone Peak Hospital, but neither had serious injuries, police said.
