SALT LAKE CITY — When it comes to pronouncing some of Utah's city names, well-known rules of spelling and pronunciation will not help you much.
Unusual Native American words, religious references and names of early explorers or residents are all common origins for Utah's city names. In other cases, dialect and tradition separate locals from out-of-towners.
