MIDVALE — A West Jordan man was killed and two others were critically injured in a multiple-vehicle crash that closed the 7200 South exit off I-15 Saturday morning.
The accident occurred around 10:30 a.m. near 300 W. 7200 South, underneath the I-15 overpass, according to Unified police detective Ken Hansen.
Russell Hale, 55, was killed when his vehicle was hit by a silver Chevrolet that exited I-15 on the 7200 South exit, jumped the median barrier and came into oncoming traffic driving eastbound on 7200 South, Hansen said.
The Chevrolet hit four cars that were stopped at a stop light on 7200 South, then caught fire, Hansen said. The driver of the Chevrolet was a woman in her 80s. She and a male passenger in the car were transported to Intermountain Medical Center in critical condition.
A pregnant woman, who was in one of the other vehicles that were hit, was also transported to Intermountain Medical Center in fair condition.
The northbound I-15 exit to westbound 7200 South was closed during the cleanup and investigation. The southbound I-15 exit to westbound 7200 South was also closed for several hours, according to the Utah Department of Transportation.
