SALT LAKE CITY — Over 50 Disney characters from 16 Disney stories will entertain thousands of Utahns this week in “Disney on Ice presents Let’s Celebrate!”

In the show, Mickey and Minnie Mouse will take the audience through some of the world’s most celebrated holidays throughout the year, according to skater Johan Lundqvist, who portrays Belle’s prince.

The celebratory show begins with an unbirthday party hosted by the Mad Hatter from “Alice in Wonderland” and continues with a Chinese New Year celebration, a Hawaiian luau with Lilo & Stitch, a Halloween party with Jack Skellington, Mardi Gras with Tiana and Naveen and more.

“It has something for everybody,” Lundqvist said. “I think everybody, both young and our older audience, parents and grandparents, will see their favorite character.”

Characters whose tales are almost as old as time, such as Snow White, will join characters like Tiana from “The Princess and the Frog” who has only been a part of Disney for a few years.

Even the Disney villains are featured in the show, singing “This is Halloween” at the Halloween party. Lundqvist said this is his favorite part.

“(The Halloween segment) is fun and unique. You don’t always see it in all the other Disney on Ice shows,” Lundqvist said. “It’s fun, it’s exciting. The lighting, the music, everything is really cool about it.”

Lundqvist, who has been skating since he was 4 years old, skates with Belle and the other Disney princesses and princes during the Valentine’s Day Royal Ball.

Character developers and choreographers have helped Lundqvist and the other competitive skaters learn to play the role of their characters and to tell a story through their skating, Lundqvist said.

“There’s a lot of practice involved, obviously,” Lundqvist said.

A native of Sweden, Lundqvist has been skating with Disney on Ice for the last 10 years.

“I don’t remember my life without skating,” Lundqvist said. “When you actually can see the faces of the kids and you know that you’re making their day, maybe their week or their month, they are going to leave the arena with memories for life ... that’s definitely my favorite part.”
