SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah State Fairpark officials have expressed disappointment after the owner of Real Salt Lake revoked an offer to develop an 8,000-seat minor league soccer stadium at the park.
The Utah State Fair Corp. issued a statement concerning the move Friday, two days after Real Salt Lake owner Dell Loy Hansen said the timing and process of getting the project approved no longer makes it a viable option.
Fairpark Executive Director Mike Steele says though the opportunity to work with Hansen has been lost, officials will continue to seek other participants interested in "future improvement and development" projects at the park.
Hansen's offer was seen as key to revitalizing the aging park, which is home to the Utah State Fair. He had offered to cover the costs of the $18 million stadium.
