CORVALLIS, Ore. — The fourth-ranked Red Rocks faced challenges at Gill Coliseum as they competed against 12th-ranked Oregon State Friday. Utah’s struggles didn’t make for a very high score, but they stay undefeated with a 196.875-195.75 victory.

“At least we won, which is hard to do here,” co-head coach Greg Marsden said to sum up the night. The last time Utah won in Corvallis was in 2011.

Utah (10-0, 6-0 Pac-12) started the night leading 49.35-49.025 after the first rotation. Georgia Dabritz (9.95) and Corrie Lothrop (9.9) earned the highest scores on the bars. Dabritz’s score earned her a seventh bar competition win of the season.

On vault, Tory Wilson was one of two Utah gymnasts to stick her dismount, scoring a 9.95 and winning the event. Freshman Kari Lee (9.9) also stuck her landing. Kailah Delaney earned a 9.9, but like Dabritz (9.875) she had to lean on her landing, resulting in deductions. The Utes led 98.85-97.025 halfway through the meet.

But the latter half of the meet took a different turn. It started with Wilson and Becky Tutka going out of bounds, which cost deductions resulting in a score of 9.7 and 9.75 respectively. Fortunately, Lothrop (9.9) and Dabritz (9.925) finished the event with big scores to carry the Utes to a two-point lead to the last rotation.

""Both Tory and Kari missed on a three-series, which is high risk, high reward. We know we're taking a risk doing those skills on the balance beam, but typically we've handled it." -Greg Marsden

The rocky road continued for the Utes. Wilson (9.15) started the beam lineup with a fall, her first of the season. Delaney (9.825) and Maddy Stover (9.85) got the team back on its usual rhythm, but Lee (9.35) also had her first fall of the season on her flight series. With two falls on the same event, the Utes counted their first fall of the season.

Dabritz, like last week, wasn't placed in the lineup. Instead she performed in a beam exhibition and scored a 9.925, which may earn her a spot back into the all-around next week.

“That’s not what we were hoping for,” said Marsden. “Both Tory and Kari missed on a three-series, which is high risk, high reward. We know we’re taking a risk doing those skills on the balance beam, but typically we’ve handled it.”

The Utes' last regular home meet is Friday, March 6, against sixth-ranked Michigan. A pre-meet ceremony will honor seniors Dabritz, Lothrop, Tutka and Wilson.
