BYU pulls away from Santa Clara for a 78-57 win

PROVO, Utah (AP) — Tyler Haws scored 21 points and BYU used a big second-half run to put away Santa Clara, 78-57 on Saturday night.

BYU led by six at halftime, but pushed its lead to 13 midway through the second half and cruised home to a 21-point victory.

Haws was just 6 of 15 from the floor, but was a perfect 7-for-7 from the free-throw line. Chase Fischer was 6 of 12 from the field and 5 of 9 from distance to finish with 18 points, and Anson Winder and Skyler Halford each had 13 points for the Cougars (17-7, 6-4 West Coast Conference).

BYU was 22 of 54 from the field (40.7 percent), but was 15 of 29 from beyond the arc and 19 of 28 from the free throw line.

Jared Brownridge scored 16 points to lead Santa Clara (11-12, 5-6) and Brandon Clark added 11 points.
