WASHINGTON TERRACE, Weber County — A 31-year-old man was hospitalized in critical condition Thursday after being thrown from his dirt bike in a Washington Terrace intersection.
The accident occurred at 2:24 p.m. Thursday when the man failed to stop at the intersection of 4700 South and 200 East, said Weber County Sheriff's Lt. Lane Findlay. Police said he accelerated into the turn instead of stopping, causing the bike to fishtail beneath him and throw him from the seat.
The man landed on his head. He was not wearing a helmet.
He was taken to an area hospital with multiple skull fractures, a broken rib and a possible brain bleed, among other injuries, Findlay said.
"If you're going to be on a motorcycle, always wear a helmet," Findlay said. "That could have made a difference in this type of case."
The dirt bike was not street legal, Findlay said.
