SALT LAKE CITY — Police are investigating a fatal shooting that happened in Sugar House Saturday evening at 1220 E. Parkway Ave.
Salt Lake City Police Lt. Rich Brede said a passing driver noticed the man lying in the street at about 7 p.m. The driver stopped to see if he could help and called police when he saw the man had been shot "in the torso area," Brede said.
"He was unconscious and not breathing; and when he arrived at the hospital shortly thereafter, we received word that he had passed away," Brede said.
Detectives found a trail of blood that went about a block from where the man was found, but they were not sure Saturday night if the man walked to the area or had been dropped off.
"We don't know if he was acting alone, if (the gunshot wound) was self-inflicted," Brede said. "We're still trying to figure all that out right now."
No one in the area reported hearing a gunshot, but a gun was found next to the man's body, the lieutenant said.
Brede identified the victim as a 24-year-old man but did not release his name.
