CASTLE DALE — An Emery County man who was scheduled to stand trial next week for a June 2014 shooting that critically injured his wife will not face a jury after all.

Chad Robert Snyder pleaded guilty Tuesday in 7th District Court to attempted murder, a second-degree felony, and two counts of possession or use of a firearm by restricted person, both third-degree felonies.

Snyder and his wife, Misty Snyder, were in the backyard of their Huntington home on June 29 when he shot her with an assault rifle during a domestic dispute, according to the Emery County Sheriff's Office.

The bullet hit Misty Snyder in the arm and traveled through her upper body, causing numerous internal injuries that required multiple surgeries, deputies said. She is no longer hospitalized, Emery County Sheriff Greg Funk said Wednesday.

Chad Snyder was initially supposed to face a jury in October, but the start of the three-day trial was rescheduled to Jan. 14. Prosecutors said the delay was necessary because Misty Snyder needed more time to recover from her injuries, court records show.

Chad Snyder, whose criminal history includes prior convictions for drug distribution, assault and DUI, asked to be sentenced immediately after entering his guilty pleas Wednesday. Judge George Harmond ordered him to serve up to 20 years in prison for attempted murder due to a weapons enhancement.

The judge also imposed sentences of up to five years in prison on each of the gun charges, and ordered that all three sentences run consecutively with each other. Chad Snyder was given credit for the 192 days he had already served in jail.
