FARMINGTON, Utah (AP) — Davis County Attorney Troy Rawlings is urging the state parole board to never let a Utah mother out of prison for her role in the killing of her 4-year-old son.
Rawlings, in a letter to the board, said Stephanie Sloop should spend the rest of her life in prison because she "cared more about her own lifestyle" than her son.
In November, the 31-year-old Sloop was sentenced to serve 20 years to life in prison for aggravated murder in the 2010 death of Ethan Stacy, who was malnourished, beaten and disfigured with a hammer.
Rawlings says Sloop failed to stop her husband and Ethan's stepfather, Nathanael Sloop, from abusing her son.
He's serving 25 years to life in prison for killing his stepson after he pleaded "guilty and mentally ill" to aggravated murder.
