SALT LAKE CITY — Dell "Super Dell" Schanze complied with a federal court order to have his home searched for weapons Wednesday, after telling a judge the day before that removing guns and ammunition from his home would leave him defenseless against possible problems.

Schanze, 45, a resident of an unincorporated area of Utah County near American Fork, is facing misdemeanor charges for allegedly chasing and kicking an owl while flying in his motorized paraglider more than three years ago — an incident that surfaced in a YouTube video last year.

He was summoned Tuesday for a pretrial release violation hearing after officers were unable to inspect his residence for firearms or ammunition. An inspection was arranged for Wednesday, after the judge determined his arguments against the search were not persuasive.

Schanze had claimed a human head was thrown through his window, though law enforcement agencies in the area said no reports consistent with that claim were filed.
