COALVILLE — A semitruck pulling a box trailer westbound on I-80 lost control, crashed into a concrete barrier and caused two lanes of traffic to be shut down Sunday afternoon.

According to the Department of Public Safety, the truck was traveling westbound on I-80 near Echo Junction around 11:50 a.m. as snow was falling on the already weather compromised roadway.

The driver was going too fast for the existing conditions and lost control as he made a lane change from the right to the left lane.

The semi went off the roadway onto the left shoulder and impacted the concrete barrier as well as an overhead sign support on the shoulder.

The impact caused the power unit of the truck to separate from the trailer which contained paper and plastic products, spilling the load into the median and left lane.

The driver was the only occupant of the truck and sustained very minor injuries.

No hazmat was released during the crash.

The left lane at milepost 167 westbound, near Echo Junction, was closed for cleanup and investigation until just after 4:00 p.m.

Citations are pending against the driver for various moving violations.
