MEMPHIS — As their annual pre-Christmas road trip came to a close, the Utah Jazz showed they saved their best for last.
Utah outlasted one of the elite teams in the Western Conference, beating the Memphis Grizzlies, 97-91, Monday night.
The six-game road trip featured three wins and three losses, and the team learned many lessons along the trip. However, there were a few instant observations from the Jazz win.
Against one of the Western Conference’s more formidable post players, Utah made 11 more free throws (20) than Memphis even attempted (9). Overall, the Jazz made 20-of-27 free throws, while Memphis made 7-of-9.
Utah’s power trio finished the game with 69 points, showcasing once again that the Jazz can be a formidable team when all three players are in rhythm.
Like the free-throw battle, Utah dominated the battle on the glass, outrebounding Memphis 49-34. The Jazz also contributed 10 offensive rebounds to the mix. Backup center Rudy Gobert came away with five of them.
