SALT LAKE CITY — Three cars were damaged when a TRAX train hit one and propelled it into two other vehicles Monday morning.

Police say, fortunately, only one person was sent to the hospital with "very minor injuries."

The incident happened just before 7 a.m. near 800 South and 200 West. Two witnesses told investigators that a car ran a red light and was clipped by an oncoming train. The collision propelled the car into another vehicle that was stopped at the red light, and it then bounced off into a third vehicle that was parked along the street and into a light pole.

The woman driving the first vehicle suffered minor injuries, said Salt Lake Police Lt. Mike Ross.

Utah Transit Authority set up a bus bridge for about 90 minutes until the tracks were cleared.

The incident was still being investigated for possible charges against the driver, Ross said.
