SOUTH SALT LAKE — Utah Highway Patrol troopers were looking for a man Sunday that they say caused an accident on the freeway and then ran off.

The accident happened about 7:15 p.m. on I-15 near 2700 South. One vehicle ran into a second, said UHP Sgt. Sgt. Mary Kaye Lucas. The impact sent the first vehicle that caused the accident spinning. It came to a stop facing the wrong way on the freeway, Lucas said.

But rather than waiting for emergency crews, witnesses told troopers that the driver got out of the car, hopped over the cement barricade and ran, she said.

The driver of the second vehicle was not injured. Extra highway patrol troopers and police K9's unsuccessfully searched the area for the first driver.

As of 8:15 p.m. Sunday, Lucas said investigators knew the identity of the person they were looking for but had not located him.

Additional information will be posted as it becomes available.
