SALT LAKE CITY — Salt Lake City police are asking for the public's help in finding two men suspected of shooting and killing a man Friday in downtown Salt Lake City. Police say the men should be considered armed and dangerous and to call 911 if they are seen.

Det. Cody Lougy also said the police department has new information it wants the public to be aware of.

"One of the biggest pieces is the correct vehicle," he said.

Lougy said police are looking for a gold Mazda, possibly a Mazda 6, with a Utah Arches license plate and a handicap placard hanging from the rear view mirror.

"The back windows are tinted," Lougy said. "Both passengers and the rear window is tinted in this particular vehicle."

Lougy said the driver is thought to be a Hispanic male with dark hair between 30-35 years old. They believe him to be 220 lbs and 5-foot-7. He was last seen wearing white shoes, dark pants and a dark blue jacket with a gray hood.

The second man is believed to be between 30-35 years old and his race is unknown. He is a slender 5-foot-6. He was last seen wearing light tan boots, camouflage pants, a maroon hooded sweatshirt with white strings and a white design on the front. He was also wearing a light-colored baseball cap.

At about 4:30 p.m. yesterday the two men stopped at 563 W. 200 South.

The passenger got out of the car and began talking to a man on the sidewalk. A short time later, the passenger pulled out a handgun, shot the man and killed him.

The driver and passenger drove away heading east on 200 South.

Lougy said the homicide appears to be drug related.

Alex Mecham works at Good Times Tattoo, 511 W. 200 South.

"I never have seen someone get killed down here before so it just kind of shows that things are getting worse in this area," Mecham said. "But I mean I guess it comes with the territory."

Mecham said it isn't the "best area in town," and that he has seen a lot of people buying and selling drugs.

"Something's bound to happen," he said.

The shooting he said was a cause for concern for everyone in the building.

"I hope (the police) can figure out something to do about the problem in this area," Mecham said. "Not just for our business' sake but for the safety of everybody that lives around here. It's definitely progressing and getting worse."

Those with any information are asked to call the Salt Lake City Police Department at 801-799-3000. Those wishing to remain anonymous can text the keyword TIPSLCPD and any information related to the homicide to 274637.
