At about 4:30 p.m. Friday, two men in what appears to be a gold, 4-door Mazda pulled up to a man walking southbound near 563 W. 200 South, according to detective Dennis McGowan of the Salt Lake City Police Department.

The passenger got out of the car and had a "short discussion" with the pedestrian, then the passenger "pulled out a handgun and shot the man he was talking to," McGowan said. The pedestrian was killed.

The pair fled eastbound on 200 South, McGowan said.

According to police, the passenger of the car is described as a tall man with a goatee, wearing a black baseball cap. The driver was wearing camouflage pants, a red hoodie with lettering on it and a white baseball cap.

McGowan said police were looking at two crime scenes, the location of the shooting and in front of The Road Home. It was unclear how the two crime scenes were connected.

A section of 200 South between 400 West and 500 West was shut down as police investigated.
