CHRISTMAS TOWN — It’s Christmas time, which means we love to spend time with family, inexplicably spend time fighting crowds at the mall, and we often lower our standards on what movies we watch just to see something with some holiday spirit.

Netflix offers a lot of Christmas movies on its streaming service to keep you busy the next few days, but many of them are not worth your time, even if you lower your standards.

With that said, there are a few that should keep you entertained while you wait for that magical day.

Here are four Christmas movies streaming on Netflix that aren’t half bad.

The Fitzgerald Family Christmas

If you like offbeat and non-traditional Christmas movies, then you’ll probably like “The Fitzgerald Family Christmas.”

The film focuses on the Fitzgerald siblings, who are now adults, as they await the arrival of their estranged father who walked out on them 20 years earlier.

The film is far from perfect, but it exudes a certain charm and heart that is hard to deny. It’s not the cheery, sappy holiday fare or the silly, hilarious kind, but rather a dramatic and sincere look at family and the holidays.

Saving Santa

Animated Christmas films are everywhere, and many of them will make you nauseous to sit through. The British-produced “Saving Santa” isn’t at the level of a “Toy Story” or “Kung Fu Panda,” but it’s not half bad.

The story of a lowly stable elf, Bernard, who saves the North Pole and Santa from a hostile takeover will keep the little ones entertained and manage to force a smile from mom and dad on occasion.

The animation is done fairly well, and Bernard, voiced by Bilbo Baggins himself, Martin Freeman, is hard not to like.

12 Dates of Christmas

We could waste away our days the entire month of December by watching Hallmark or ABC Family produced Christmas movies over and over and over again. These movies usually aren’t made very well, but we can’t help getting sucked in and watching the whole thing, just to turn around and do it again tomorrow night.

If you’re going to waste away in front of your TV watching one of these films, at least make it a decent one.

The “12 Dates of Christmas” stars Mark-Paul Gosselaar, better known as Zack Morris, and Amy Smart.

Smart plays a woman who keeps reliving her first blind date with a widower, Gosselar, over and over again until she learns what Christmas is really all about.

Yes, the movie is predictable and yes, it’s clichéd, but the performances are actually good and you can’t help but get in the Christmas mood while watching it.

The Preacher’s Wife

The 1996 remake, “The Preacher’s Wife” has become a holiday classic in many homes and it is now streaming on Netflix.

The movie stars Denzel Washington as an angel named Dudley who arrives to help the Rev. Henry Biggs and his marriage. The good reverend soon realizes that Dudley may do more harm than good.

The movie is sweet, funny and perfect for Christmas. Washington is great, as always, and the late Whitney Houston turns in a solid performance as the titular preacher’s wife.

The selection of holiday movies streaming on Netflix isn’t as solid as it was last year, but there are at least a few good picks from which to choose.
