BOX ELDER COUNTY — A case of road rage resulted in a broken side view mirror and a man’s truck being shot Friday evening, according to the Utah Highway Patrol.

The incident occurred on I-15 near Perry around 5:45 p.m., officials said. A man reported that another driver fired multiple shots at him while he traveled south on I-15. The shooter reportedly sideswiped the victim's truck after firing the shots, breaking off the van’s driver’s side mirror, officials said.

The victim continued driving and was unsure if his truck had been hit until he stopped in Weber County. Investigators recovered a bullet from the tailgate of the victim’s truck and discovered two shell casings near the Perry port of entry.

The victim said the shooter was driving a tan or brown Chevrolet Astro van, but he was unable to provide a license plate number for the van.

Investigators did not know Monday why the driver of the pickup was targeted or whether there was some type of confrontation prior to the shooting.

Anyone who saw a Chevrolet Astro van in Willard or Weber County between 5:40-6 p.m. Friday can contact the Utah Highway Patrol at 801-965-4518.
