SALT LAKE CITY — A two-hour standoff between police and an armed man who barricaded himself inside a home and threatened to shoot a family member ended peacefully Friday morning.
Salt Lake City police received a call around 1:30 a.m. regarding a domestic dispute between two adult brothers near 300 North and 1000 West.
One of the brothers was high on meth and became aggressive, according to Lt. Dave Cracroft with the Salt Lake City Police Department. The man left before officers arrived.
Officers responded, but then cleared the scene.
A short time later, the aggressive brother returned to the home and threatened to kill his brother, Cracroft said. Officers returned to the home, where they say the drug-induced brother ran into the house and locked the door.
After SWAT teams surrounded the house, he finally surrendered.
“We were on the P.A. system for two hours and we didn’t want to break anything or hurt anybody. So, he finally came out and we’re happy,” Cracroft said.
The man, whose name was not immediately released, was taken into custody. No injuries were reported.
Cracroft said the man has a prior criminal history that includes weapons and drug charges. Police were booking him into jail for investigation of domestic violence, assault, and domestic threats.
