PROVO — A Provo man was arrested on suspicion of sexual exploitation of a minor after investigators recovered child pornography images on his phone, according to police.

Stevan Andrew Johnson, 24, first met with police to discuss a case involving solicitation of prostitution on Oct. 29, according to a probable cause statement written by the Provo Police Department. Investigators wrote that Johnson requested police recover deleted text messages and photographs sent between him and a prostitute as part of the investigation.

“The defendant signed a consent form allowing the forensic examination, and recovery of text messages and photographs from his cellphone,” the statement reads. “The defendant questioned if drawings of child pornography would be a crime, and indicated that we may find such images.”

When investigators reviewed the data that was downloaded from Johnson’s phone, they found dozens of images of children under the age of 18 in various sexual poses performing sexual acts, according to the probable cause statement.

Police wrote that Johnson’s cell phone was password protected and only belonged to him. He was charged with 10 counts of sexual exploitation of a minor, a second-degree felony, and booked into the Utah County Jail on Tuesday.
