KAYSVILLE — The family of a 12-year-old Kaysville girl who was accidentally shot and killed in her home broke their silence Tuesday with a brief statement.

"We are heartbroken by the passing of our sweet Addy. We miss her terribly. Yet, we know that our lives have been better for having her in them, and we know that we can be with her again," the family of Adelaide Clinger said in a prepared statement released by their LDS bishop, Nathan Hulse.

Sunday afternoon, Addy was accidentally shot and killed by her younger sibling inside her home, on the 1900 block of Cooper Street. She was reportedly shot just hours after giving a talk in church in which she expressed gratitude for her family.

On Monday, grief counselors were sent by the Davis School District to Davis High School, Centennial Junior High and Snow Horse Elementary to help students and faculty who were affected by the tragedy. Many students, after learning of the shooting through social media, wore their Sunday best to school on Monday to honor her.

"We are truly grateful for the wonderful first-responder team. We are also very appreciative of the thoughts and prayers from so many people. We have been so blessed by the love, kindness, and support from the community. And though we are so very grateful, we also ask for privacy to grieve and to heal," the Clinger family said in their statement.

Funeral services are scheduled for Saturday at 11 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints meetinghouse at 615 N. Flint St. in Kaysville. A public viewing is scheduled from 9 to 10:30 a.m.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Addy Clinger Memorial Fund* at www.giveforward.com or to the Addy Clinger Benefit Fund at any Wells Fargo Bank*.

Kaysville police have not released any details about the circumstances of the shooting or what kind of gun was used.
