POCATELLO, Idaho — Crazy things happen in rivalry games.

Weber State and Idaho State have a long-standing football rivalry and the Wildcats have dominated it for years. However, Idaho State coach Mike Kramer has changed the tide this season, beating the Wildcats, 46-28, Saturday.

The victory is Idaho State’s first victory over Weber since 2002, and sets up the Bengals with a chance at qualifying for the FCS playoffs.

The Wildcats entered the game hoping to finish the season on a three-game winning streak, but fell short in several areas.

As usual, Weber’s postgame grades reflect a mixed effort for the team.

Offense: C-

There were positives in the loss. Weber State gained 463 yards (184 rushing). However, Weber also turned the ball over twice and went scoreless in the fourth quarter, despite trailing 36-28 to end the third quarter.

Defense: D

On the positive note, Weber State intercepted Idaho State quarterback Justin Arias twice. However, the Wildcats also allowed Arias to pass for 322 yards, and allowed the Bengals to rush for 333 yards. Overall, Idaho State gained 655 total yards.

Special Teams: B

There were no overly dynamic plays made by the unit, but kicker Josh Kealamakia made two field goals. His makes helped keep the Wildcats alive during the first half after Idaho State took an early 19-8 lead in the first quarter. His second field goal brought Weber within five, 19-14, in the second quarter.

Team: C-

It wasn't a terrible effort by the team, but surrendering 655 yards doesn’t help the cause. Also, turning the ball over twice while being penalized for 104 yards isn’t exactly merit-worth either.
