PROVO — The man who allegedly robbed a credit union with a note stating “this is a robbery” was arrested Wednesday, police said.
The Utah Community Credit Union located at 1501 S. 40 East was robbed at about 9:04 a.m. Wednesday, according to the Provo Police Department. Investigators said they were led to 25-year-old Daniel Sparks, a Provo resident, through independent leads and multiple tips.
Sparks invited police inside his home when they contacted him at his residence later that day, according to a probable cause statement.
“Once inside, Provo police observed a black leather jacket with a hoody matching the same as observed on video,” the probable cause statement reads. “The defendant voluntarily went with Provo police to the police station, where he confessed to acting alone in committing the robbery at the Utah Community Credit Union earlier on Nov. 19.”
He told police he robbed the bank to obtain money to purchase oxycodone without a prescription, according to the probable cause statement. It states that he also told police he had the drugs in his home.
Investigators said they seized items related to the robbery. Sparks was arrested on suspicion of robbery and possession of a controlled substance, second-degree felonies, and booked into the Utah County Jail.
