LOGAN — Utah State forward David Collette introduced himself to Division I basketball in a big way last week.

In the first week of the 2014-15 college basketball season, the redshirt freshman averaged 19.5 pounts and 5.0 rebounds as the Aggies opened the season on a two-game winning streak. Collette was named the Mountain West Conference Player of the Week after victories of Weber State and Illinois State, the conference announced Monday.

Collette shot 18 of 25 (72 percent) from the field over the two-week span as the Aggies (2-0) rallied from first-half deficits in both games to upend the Wildcats and Redbirds. The freshman added five steals, five blocked shots and two assists in the wins.

The first-year player from Murray High School went 5-of-5 from the field in the second half as Utah State stormed back from a seven-point halftime deficit against the Redbirds in their first road game of the season. He also drained both ends of a one-and-one as the Aggies held a 58-55 lead in the final three seconds to seal the victory.
