SALT LAKE CITY — Chris is a sweet little boy with a permanent smile. He's autistic and functions at about a 5-year-old level, but that hasn't kept him from reaching some major milestones.
He used to rarely make eye contact and now loves interacting with those around him.
"I'm 12," said Chris proudly.
He recently learned how to swim and loves spending time in the water.
"He is delayed," Morgan Earley with the Division of Child and Family Services said. "He does require patience and learning but he's eager to learn."
Back on land, Chris has a few more favorite things.
"Baseball and LEGOs," he said.
Because of his developmental delay, Chris qualifies for free medical services, so it's something his adoptive family won't need to worry about. Those who meet him can't help but love his shy and sweet personality.
"A silly, easy going kid," said Earley. "He just loves to be loved — and really that's all he asks for."
Chris would thrive in a home with siblings or one-on-one with a mom and dad. He's been thinking about where he and his permanent family could live.
"A big house," he said loudly.
No matter the size of the house, what Chris really needs and deserves is a permanent stable home with a mom and dad who will love him forever.
