SALT LAKE CITY — Thousands of Utahns were without power Saturday, mostly due to stormy weather. At one point, Rocky Mountain Power reported over 16,000 customers affected by the outages.

Large-scale outages were reported in Weber County, including the Pleasant View, Harrisville and North Ogden, where an estimated 2,600 households were without power in the evening. Crews were still working Saturday night to restore service.

In the Ogden and Taylor areas of Weber County, more than 10,000 customers lost power in the early afternoon, but that number had been trimmed to about 2,900 customers within a few hours; all power was restored by 8:45 p.m.

Meanwhile, 2,560 customers were without power in Liberty and Eden.

In Box Elder County and Cache County, just under 1,500 customers were waiting their power to be restored in the communities of Avon, Honeyville and Paradise.

In Salt Lake County, about 1,900 households were in the dark for a while. Power was restored to those customers by 8:45 p.m. as well.

At least some of the outages were caused by a blustery storm that moved in over Utah at about 2 p.m, according to Margret Oler, spokeswoman for Rocky Mountain Power. She said the utility's crews were working hard to find what was causing the outages and get them fixed.

"Our folks are responding as (the outages) occur and will make those needed repairs as quickly as possible to get everyone restored," Oler said.

Up to date outage numbers can be found on Rocky Mountain Power's website.

Oler urged anyone experiencing a power outage to call Rocky Mountain Power and report it.
