OREM — Police are seeking the public’s help in identifying three individuals involved in two separate theft cases.

One of the thefts occurred Oct. 24 at 11:30 p.m. at the Maverik located at 833 N. 1200 West, according to Orem police Lt. Craig Martinez. A man drove his vehicle to the gas station and left the keys in the ignition when he went inside the convenience store, Martinez said. During that time, a man and woman were in the convenience store together and when they went outside, the man saw the keys in the ignition and stole the vehicle, Martinez said.

“It was more a crime of opportunity,” he said.

Video surveillance showed the man and woman in the store and police posted the photos to their Facebook page to ask for the public’s help in identifying the couple. Martinez said police identified the woman after receiving a tip from a citizen and officers are interviewing her.

The man has not yet been located. The stolen car is a 1996 red Audi A4 with license plate D680NW.

The other theft occurred Oct. 4 at 1 p.m. at the Macy’s store in the University Mall, Martinez said. A man took several items of clothing into a dressing room but only had two items when he left the empty dressing area, Martinez said.

A loss-prevention officer approached the man as he was leaving the store and the man started walking back into Macy’s, then shoved the officer and fled the scene, Martinez said. The man was seen leaving the mall on foot heading south and was last seen by witnesses near the Dexter & Dexter Attorneys at Law office near 800 East and 1200 South.

The thief was described as a white male around 18-20 years old with piercings in both cheeks. He was wearing black shorts, black shirt, black hat and a black backpack at the time of the theft. Macy’s employees described the stolen items as a black, Famous brand T-shirt and a black, LRG brand baseball cap, Martinez said.

Anyone with information about the thefts or the individuals can contact the Orem Police Department at 801-229-7070.
