RIVERDALE — Police arrested a man early Thursday morning who is suspected in a string of armed robberies of Walgreens and Wal-Mart stores across Weber and Davis counties.

A man walked up to a cashier at the Riverdale Wal-Mart at 4848 S. 900 West around 1:40 a.m. and demanded cash, according to police. A customer saw a gun in the man's backpack.

“He made the comment to her (the cashier) that if she didn’t open the drawer, that he was going to shoot her,” said Riverdale police Lt. Scott Brenkman. “He used the words, ‘I will pop you.’”

The manager opened the till and Adams took off, but the witness had alerted authorities and an officer was waiting outside the store. He had to wrestle the man to restrain him.

“No injuries, just didn’t follow commands they were giving him, so there was a struggle over getting him handcuffed,” Brenkman said.

The gun in the man's pack was a sawed off .22 caliber rifle, police said.

Police said Justin Adams, 32, was arrested following the Thursday robbery attempt. Investigators will now look into whether Adams was also involved in robberies of stores in Ogden, North Ogden and Layton.
