Kruger leads Browns to victory over Raiders in Week 8 of the NFL

SALT LAKE CITY- Paul Kruger has heard the doubters ever since the Cleveland Browns signed him to a large contract.

He’s heard how his contract is among the worst in the NFL, and he’s heard how he will never live up to the money he’s being paid.

However, Kruger demonstrated why the Browns thought so highly of him. He made five tackles, had three sacks and forced a fumble in Cleveland’s 23-13 win over the Oakland Raiders Sunday.

Several other Utah alumni made an impact in Week 8 of the NFL season. San Diego safety Eric Weddle made 11 tackles in the Chargers’ 35-21 loss to Denver, while Tenny Palepoi made a tackle for San Diego.

Also, Kansas City quarterback Alex Smith completed 24-of-28 passes for 226 yards in the Chiefs’ 34-7 win over the St. Louis Rams.

Chiefs defensive back Sean Smith also made a tackle in the Kansas City win, and Baltimore receiver Steve Smith caught three passes for 35 yards in a 27-24 loss to Cincinnati.


San Diego Chargers safety Eric Weddle made 11 tackles and forced a fumble in the Chargers' 35-21 loss to the Denver Broncos.

Paul Soliai made two tackles for the Atlanta Falcons in a 22-21 loss to Detroit. Also, Pittsburgh’s Brice McCain made two tackles in the Steelers’ 51-34 win over Indianapolis, while Carolina’s Star Lotulelei made two tackles in the Panthers’ 13-9 loss to Seattle.

The Minnesota Vikings earned a 19-13 overtime victory over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and former Utah running back Matt Asiata caught four passes for 26 yards.

BYU alumnus Ezekiel Ansah had a tackle and a forced fumble in Detroit’s 22-21 win over Atlanta.

Utah State alumnus Will Davis made two tackles in Miami’s 27-13 loss to Jacksonville, while Robert Turbin caught three passes for Seattle in the Seahawks’ 13-9 victory over Carolina.
