WEST VALLEY CITY — A man allegedly hit at least two civilian cars near Taylorsville on Friday during a high-speed police chase.

Investigators with the West Valley Police Department were looking for Victor Rodriguez, a known fugitive, when he was spotted near 6900 South and 1300 West getting into a vehicle with a teenager Friday at 5:20 p.m., according to Lt. Matt Elson. Rodriguez then attempted to leave.

Elson said Rodriguez fled from West Valley police and U.S. Marshals after they tried to issue a warrant for aggravated assault resulting in serious bodily injury as well as possession of a firearm by a restricted person.

Detectives initiated a pursuit that ended up on Redwood Road headed northbound, Elson said. Officers spiked at least one of the tires of Rodriguez's vehicle.

Elson said Rodriguez purposefully hit two civilian vehicles, but there were no injuries.

The detectives then attempted a pursuit intervention technique involving spinning Rodriguez's car out of control, but he was able to regain control, Elson said.

A second pit maneuver was used, which pushed Rodriguez's car up on the median at 5682 S Redwood Road, where he surrendered to custody without further incident, Elson said.

Rodriguez was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail in connection with his previous warrants in addition to fleeing and vehicular assault.
