KEARNS — Police are investigating a fatal motorcycle accident in Kearns.
At about 6:30 p.m., Unified police received reports of a traffic accident at 5706 S. Trowbridge Way, according to Lt. Justin Hoyal.
"When officers arrived, they found the accident involved a single motorcyclist and a tree," Hoyal said.
The 51-year-old male from the Kearns area was traveling northbound on Trowbridge when he couldn't negotiate a bend in the road and "ultimately veered over in the opposite late of travel and crashed with a tree," Hoyal said. The rider was not wearing a helmet.
Witnesses reported the man was "traveling at a high rate of speed," according to Hoyal. The accident occurred on a residential road with a 25 mph speed limit.
The man died on scene, Hoyal said. His name was not released Thursday night.
