SYRACUSE — A semitrailer hauling onions tipped over after taking a turn too fast, causing a road closure for several hours, officials said.
The accident occurred around 2 p.m. near Antelope Drive and 2000 West, according to Syracuse City officials. The 31-year-old driver from Erda was traveling southbound on 2000 West and was attempting to turn east on 1700 South. Police said the driver was traveling too fast when turning the corner and the semitrailer tipped over, spilling thousands of onions on the road.
Police said about 80,000 pounds of onions were spilled on the road.
Eastbound Antelope Drive will be closed during the cleanup and officials asked drivers to be careful when traveling through the intersection.
The incident is still under investigation by UHP.
