MARVEL UNIVERSE — Marvel fans have been waiting for their chance to get a first look at the “Avengers” sequel, and this week, Disney offered them just that.

In the newly released teaser for “Avengers: Age of Ultron,” which had nearly 10 million views in under 15 hours, a much darker tone appears to be set for the superhero team as director Joss Whedon tackles a cinematic version of the 10-issue comic series.

The teaser is short, but rich with references to the comics (including Captain America’s broken shield), new characters, and probably the creepiest version of Pinocchio’s “I’ve got no Strings” ever recorded.

Fans familiar with the story and excited with the new material have taken to Twitter:

I only watched my Avengers DVD last night, but after the #AgeofUltron trailer I feel the urge to put it in again & relive happier times... — Zoë Marriott (@ZMarriott) October 23, 2014

Fans not able to wait until May might enjoy revisiting the original “Age of Ultron” (AU) comic series since it’s unlikely to contain many spoilers. The original story includes a much larger cast of characters than Disney has to work with, is not an Ultron origin story — which this will most likely be, and includes one of the more complicated time travel plots likely to be ignored by Whedon.

While that’s all speculation, and no one will know anything for sure until Marvel’s heroes reunite on the big screen six months from now, it’s nice to know we can rewatch some Hulkbuster footage over and over again while we wait.
