SALT LAKE CITY—Osa Masina from Brighton High is already the top football recruit coming out of Utah. He is a star on offense and defense, has 70 tackles on the year, 6.5 sacks and is being recruited by most Pac-12 schools. This week Masina can add another accomplishment to his resume. Masina was recently named the Scholar-Athlete of the Week by the Utah chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame.

The National Football Foundation is an organization dedicated to ensure the future of local football players. The Utah chapter was created in 1994. Winners of this award receive a $1,000 scholarship based on their GPA, football performance and leadership. Masina will be recognized along with the other Scholar-Athlete of the Week Award winners in April 2015 at the Annual Awards banquet for the Utah chapter.

Masina is 6-foot-4, 230 pounds and plays both running back and outside linebacker for Brighton High. He has 326 rushing yards and 96 receiving yards that contribute to his six touchdowns on the season.

Brighton head coach Ryan Bullett said that along with his talent, Masina is very humble and does whatever it takes for his team to succeed.

“His greatest trait or quality is that he isn’t seeking attention. He doesn’t care if he gets two carries or 20 carries a game. He’s probably got 100 less carries than last year, but he just wants us to be successful.” Bullett continued, “You wouldn’t know if Notre Dame was recruiting him or some Tech school, he wouldn’t say a word.”

Along with most Pac-12 schools, Wisconsin, Michigan and Notre Dame have interest in Masina along with several other schools. Masina has not committed to any school and plans to announce his decision at the Army All-American game in December.
