DRAPER — If Timpanogos’ girls soccer team was panicking going into halftime down 2-1 to Mountain Crest in a Class 4A state semifinal, it didn’t show it.

The defending state champion Timberwolves had been there before, and they knew they held their own destiny in their hands.

Jordyn Chung-Hoon had two goals, and Aspyn Farrer scored the game-winner with five minutes remaining as Timpanogos outlasted the Mustangs 5-3 at Juan Diego High School to clinch passage to the state finals.

The Timberwolves will face Skyline at 7 p.m. Friday in a rematch of last year's state championship.

“I think they came out and wanted to win enough that they got the job done,” Timpanogos coach Megan Fereday said. “It was a great effort; this game was a game of inches, on both sides, and we were lucky to put some goals away.”

The Timberwolves (15-2) weren’t without a thorough testing by Region 5’s top seed. Annalee Davidson skipped a ball from inside the box into the back of the net to give Mountain Crest (14-3) a lead only six minutes into the match, but Timpanogos equalized through Chung-Hoon’s first goal nearly 20 minutes later.

After Chantel Crosbie’s goal two minutes before halftime gave the Mustangs a 2-1 lead, Chung-Hoon wasted little time before hooking a right-footed shot inside the far post less than two minutes into the second half.

“I just tried to take a chance,” Chung-Hoon said of her second goal. “That’s all there was to it; I just went for it.

“It was definitely a little frustrating, but I knew that we were going to win. I had a firm belief in my team.”

Devri Hartle gave the Timberwolves a 3-2 lead around the hour mark, but it was short-lived as Brynlee Welch beat the goalkeeper just three minutes later to equalize for the Mustangs.

Then Farrer’s shot happened, a falling-away blast that looped over the defense and dipped under the crossbar for a 4-3 advantage and the Timberwolves’ lead for good.

“I’m excited for Aspyn. I thought she worked hard up top, running a lot of those balls down, and she gave us a good spark and energy up top,” Fereday said. “We were able to finish a great shot. She did a great job today.”

Tess Donaldson added an insurance goal with just over two minutes remaining to help ice the match and send the Timberwolves to yet another state final at Rio Tinto Stadium in Sandy.

“It was an exciting win,” Fereday said, breathing in a long sigh of relief. “It feels good to get to the finals. I thought the girls did a great job.”

Skyline 1, Timpview 0 — At Juan Diego, Sara Weixler scored a goal off a corner kick in the 64th minute to help the Eagles (17-2) to their second 4A title match in three years with a shutout of the Thunderbirds (14-3-2).

Weixler leaped high in the air in the center of the box and towered over Timpview's defenders for the lone goal of the match. Twin sister Hillary Weixler made the shutout stand, defending three chances in the final 10 minutes to earn the stat.

Timpview's best chance came with six minutes left, when Lindsee Moffat redirect a cross on frame to force a save out of Sara Weixler that helped ice the game.

Skyline and Timpanogos have met for three straight years in the 4A state tournament. Timpanogos beat Skyline 1-0 last year to claim the championship.
