SALT LAKE CITY — What used to be a simple phone call has turned into an event. Revealing a baby’s gender has always been special, but now, many couples have come up with creative ways to unveil if their bundle of joy will be a boy or a girl.

Photos of pink and blue are strewn across social media, each one more creative than the last. Here is a list of the most creative ways to reveal the gender of your baby.

Ultrasound Party

What better way to share an intimate moment than to throw a huge party? If you’re a fan of up-close-and-personal, The Bump suggests inviting your ultrasound technician over to your house, along with your family and friends, and letting everyone find out the baby's gender at the same time.

Mystery cake

It’s not a party without a cake. What to Expect advises taking the gender results to a local baker and asking them to bake either a blue or pink cake, topped with white frosting. The first slice cut from the delicious cake will reveal whether it’s sugar and spice or snails and puppy dog tails.

Piñata Party

Heat up the reveal with a little competition. If you fill a piñata with either pink or blue candy and confetti, the suspense will rise with each whack as family members and friends crack the code, according to What to Expect.

Colored Soda

Personalize a Jones Soda bottle by attaching the picture of your ultrasound on the front of the bottle and a corresponding poem to go along with the gender over the nutritional facts. According to What to Expect, the blue bubblegum flavor fits nicely for a boy, while a berry flavor favors a girl.

Scrabble Letters

Baby gender reveal photos are widely popular on social media. To create an aesthetically pleasing photo, Mommy Noire suggests arranging Scrabble letters to say “It’s a boy” or “It’s a girl” and including a picture of the ultrasound.

Scratch-off Cards

It’s like an iTunes gift card without the cash. According to Babble, you can create scratch-off cards with the word “boy” or “girl” underneath and give one to each of the guests. Provide them with a coin and watch them unveil the gender.

Silly String Fight

Get your game face on with a gender-reveal Silly String fight. Buy either blue or pink cans of Silly String, but cover up the label with brown construction paper. On the count of three, ask everyone to spray their bottle, and let the air fill with a mass of pink or blue.

Arm Wrestle

It’s a battle of the sexes. With the woman clad in pink and the man wearing blue, sit down for a good old-fashioned arm wrestle. Document the wrestle by taking photos, and in the end, whichever gender it is will be revealed by which gender wins the arm wrestle.

Guest Poll

According to Belly Belly, many people enjoy speculating the gender, but this is one way to make their guesses official. Invite family and friends to come over and cast their vote on a chalkboard with “girl” written on one side and “boy” written on the other. Set up pictures of the ultrasound and a chart of Chinese gender predictions.

Pet Reveal

For the dog and cat lovers out there, it can be fun to involve your pet to reveal the big news. Dress your pet in a pink or blue outfit or ribbon and let them walk into a room full of guests wearing the corresponding color.

Team Pink vs. Team Blue

Asking friends and family to guess your baby’s gender is a common ritual, but this pink and blue party makes it more fun, according to Belly Belly. Ask each of your guests to dress in either pink or blue, depending on what their guess is. When you reveal the sex of the baby, send the winning team home with pink or blue trinkets.

Facebook Event

Involve hundreds of people in your reveal by creating a Facebook event. Pop Sugar suggests asking friends to guess the gender, weight and date of birth of your baby. If anybody gets all three right, mail them a box of chocolates.

Colored Flowers

Flowers are fun for this special occasion, according to Pop Sugar. Once you find out the gender from the ultrasound technician, order either pink or blue flowers and take them to your mother and mother-in-law.

Balloon Reveal

Balloons are widely used to reveal a baby’s gender, but one unique way to announce the big news is to fill a black balloon with pink or blue confetti. Once you’re ready to reveal, have one of your other children pop the balloon and watch colored confetti fall to the ground.

Pancake Toppings

Mom 365 suggests that if mom and dad want to be surprised, ask the ultrasound technician to seal the gender in an envelope. Take the envelope to a restaurant and ask the waiter to top your pancakes with either blueberries or strawberries depending on what the gender is.

Baby Shower Surprise

It’s time for the mommy-to-be to find out last. Mom.Me advises the mom to give a sealed envelope with the baby gender inside to the host of her baby shower. The host will then tell the guests, who will buy corresponding gifts. Mom will find out when she opens her gifts.
