EMIGRATION CANYON — Two teenagers were rescued after their car drove off the road and ended up 100 to 150 feet down a ravine in Emigration Canyon, Sunday night.
A boy, 16, was driving with a passenger, a 17-year-old girl, near the east entrance of Emigration Canyon and took a corner too quickly around 10:15 p.m., said Unified Police Lt. Justin Hoyal.
"As they were coming around a corner (he) lost control and then went off the side of the road. (They) went down 100 to 150 feet," he said.
A group of stargazers in the area called 911 and guided rescuers to the victims, who could not be seen from the road. Without their help, it would have taken rescuers much longer to reach the victims, according to Hoyal.
“They heard screeching tires and heard the crash and came down to help,” he said.
The boy received minor injuries and refused treatment at the scene. The girl was transported to the University Hospital in fair condition.
Both were wearing sea belts, which prevented more serious injuries, Hoyal said.
