MARION, Ind. — When one CEO decided to teach 3,000 college students a lesson, a pizza delivery man walked away with more than $1,200 in tips.

Keith Newman, Indiana Wesleyan University's CEO of Residential Education, wanted to teach his students about kindness when he heard a pastor say, “Do for one what you wish you could do for everyone,” according to Good Morning America.

During his weekly chapel service, Newman decided to illustrate this mantra by ordering two pizzas totaling $12.50, and encouraging the students to write a note of encouragement and donate any amount of money they could for the tip.

By the time James Gilpin, who delivered the pizzas, got to the university chapel, he was welcomed on the stage and presented $1,248.68, almost $100 in gift cards and thousands of encouraging notes, Good Morning America reported.

"When it was announced what was being given him, James' face actually went blank for a few moments, wondering if he was hearing correctly," Jim Lo, a faculty member and one of the event organizers, told the Huffington Post in an email. "The smile on his face as he was leaving the stage was wonderful to behold."

According to WRTV, Gilpin said he will use the money to pay for his 5-year-old and 6-year-old children’s Christmas.
