OREM — Police said a husband and wife turned themselves in after family recognized them on Orem police's Facebook post in connection with a cell phone theft in a Wal-Mart.
Orem police Lt. Craig Martinez said after posting a surveillance photo on their Facebook page, a family member recognized and contacted the couple in the photo.
Martinez said the Orem couple turned themselves in to detectives at about 5 p.m. and have "returned all the property that was missing." The couple's names were not released as police are still screening charges.
The theft occurred Sunday evening at the Wal-Mart at 1355 S. Sandhill Road, Martinez said. A woman was in the game room of Wal-Mart and left her Samsung Note in the room when she left, Martinez said. Monday morning, the woman realized she had misplaced her phone and went to Walmart, only to find it was no longer in the game room.
The victim reported the incident to Wal-Mart employees, who then reviewed surveillance video. The video showed a man grab the phone, put it into his jacket pocket, then leave Wal-Mart with a woman pushing a grocery cart, Martinez said.
“We’re a department who likes to solicit the help of our citizens,” Martinez said. “We’re not afraid to ask for help because we can’t do it all on our own.”
