WEBER COUNTY — Crews removed a man from his car after it dropped almost 20 feet, landing on its nose in a pit.

It happened on Trappers Loop in Weber County after 8 p.m.

UHP Sgt. Brandon Whitehead said the driver, a 47-year-old man from Ogden, told investigators he was southbound when he swerved to the right to avoid a deer. His car went off the west side of the highway, into a pasture area and dropped 18 feet into a pit.

Emergency crews responded and secured the car so it would not fall over, then removed the man.

Whitehead said the driver was flown to a hospital with broken bones but was expected to recover.

UHP was investigating whether speed was a factor.
