WEST VALLEY CITY — Police arrested two men on drug offenses while looking for a suspect in an overnight armed robbery.
Around 12:30 a.m., West Valley police responded to an armed robbery at a Domino's Pizza, 6900 W. 3500 South. The store had just closed and employees were getting ready to count the night's cash register when a man entered through an unlocked door.
"The suspect in the case came in and demanded money, brandished a firearm at the employees and left on foot in an unknown direction," said West Valley Police Sgt. Todd Gray.
Officers began searching nearby and found a "suspicious" vehicle, Gray said. Police began to follow the car and as they were pulling up the registration information, the driver pulled into the driveway of a home and both vehicle occupants ran off.
Police began searching the neighborhood and located one man in a nearby backyard and another on the roof of a nearby home.
The driver was arrested for investigation of possession of a weapon by a restricted person, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving on a suspended license, according to West Valley police spokeswoman Roxanne Vainuku. The passenger was booked for investigation of possession of drug paraphernalia and an outstanding warrant, she said.
Officers determined that the occupants of the car were not connected to the robbery. Investigators were still looking for the gunman in the robbery.
