PROVO CANYON — The body of a woman was found near Bridal Veil Falls Tuesday afternoon at about 4:40 p.m., the Utah County Sheriff's Office confirmed.

The woman was between 30 and 40 years old, Sgt. Spencer Cannon said. There appeared to be signs of trauma on the body.

"An individual here at Bridal Veil Falls had located what he thought was a coat at the bottom of the falls. He walked over to retrieve that coat (which) turned out to be a deceased female," said Lt. Tom Hodgson with the Utah County Sheriff's Office.

As of Tuesday night, police believe the woman died after a fall. It was not clear if the fall was accidental, but according Lt. Tom Hodgson, police do not immediately suspect foul play.

"We see a lot of slip and fall accidents here at Bridal Veil Falls," Hodgson said. "So it's not unprecedented to have someone fall up here, but again, we don't want to assume anything a this point in time."

Investigators are working to identify the woman.

Police are asking for the public's assistance with the investigation. Anyone who saw a white female wearing a white jacket who may have been hiking alone and in the area prior to 4:40 p.m. can call the Utah County Sheriff's office at 801-343-4100.

More information will be posted as it becomes available.
