SALT LAKE CITY — There were two games in Week 6 of the season that featured match-ups between the No. 1 and No. 2 teams in their respective classifications.

One featured a rematch of the 2013 5A state championship game. This time No. 1 Bingham had to make the trip to the jungle to face No. 2 Brighton.

The home-field advantage didn’t make much of a difference as Bingham’s defense continues to dominate opposing offenses. The Miners have given up just 21 points to in-state teams after crushing the Bengals 24-0.

Desert Hills had to score 21 unanswered points in the second half to defeat Pine View 35-14.

Defense was also key for the Thunder, who forced five turnovers in the game.

Desert Hills is now 6-0 and have won 12 straight games dating back to last season.

Top five performers of the week

Zach Katoa, RB/DB, American Fork

Katoa makes it back-to-back weeks on the top performer list with a six-touchdown effort against rival Lone Peak. He scored four on the ground, two through the air and also added an interception on defense in the 51-24 win.

Jeremiah Ieremia, RB/LB, Hurricane

Ieremia rushed for 151 yards and two touchdowns, and added a 68-yard touchdown reception in the Tigers' 34-14 win over Dixie. He capped off his weekend by committing to BYU.

David Mapa, WR, Hunter

Everything Mapa caught Friday night turned into an explosive play. Three of his four receptions were touchdowns, and he finished with 167 receiving yards in a 42-12 win over Cottonwood.

Landon Stice, RB, Stansbury

Stice rushed for 172 yard and two touchdowns helping the Stallions stay undefeated in region play. He also added seven tackles on defense.

Max Christensen, LB, Sky View

Christensen had 5.5 sacks and 10 tackles in the Bobcats' 34-14 win over Mountain Crest.

Five games to watch this week

No. 5 American Fork at No. 2 Herriman, Friday, 7 p.m.

Herriman has been taking out its frustration on the competition since a loss to No. 1 Bingham in Week 2. The Mustangs have averaged 40 points per game and their average margin of victory has been 24 points. American Fork looks like a dark horse contender in 5A and the Cavemen have also punished their opponents since a one-point loss in Week 1 to Brighton. The winner of this game will take over sole possession of first place in Region 4 with just two region games remaining.

No. 4 Stansbury at Tooele, Friday, 7 p.m.

This game lost a bit of its luster when Tooele was upset on its home field by Juan Diego in triple overtime. It won’t reduce the amount of intensity both of these teams will bring into this matchup. This is the most anticipated meeting between these two schools since Stansbury open its doors in 2007.

No. 5 Highland and No. 4 Woods Cross, Friday, 7 p.m. (KJZZ)

This game will likely decide the Region 6 title. Woods Cross already has victories over Bountiful and East and a win over Highland would bring the Wildcats one step closer to the title. Highland is also 3-0 and region play and a win would allow the Rams to control their own destiny through the rest of region play.

No. 2 Corner Canyon at Skyline, Friday, 7 p.m.

Corner Canyon is crushing region opposition by a total score of 120 to 40 in three games. The Chargers can take sole possession of first place in Region 7 with a win at Skyline. The Eagles are averaging 50 points per game and can also take sole possession of first place and make a statement by defeating the undefeated Chargers.

Logan at Sky View, Friday, 7 p.m.

Sky View can complete the sweep of its Cache Valley rivals by beating Logan in Smithfield. It would also allow Sky View to keep pace with Roy for first place in Region 5. Logan doubled up a much improved Bonneville team in Week 6, 42-21, and now hope to spoil the Bobcats' perfect region record.
