Teacher becomes Honor Flight 'guardian' for WWII vet without family

WASHINGTON D.C. — Each of the veterans participating in the Honor Flight is paired with a guardian who helps lead them through the tour.

Many guardians are close family members, but others are volunteers, like Wayne Madsen.

Madsen teaches seventh grade social studies at West Point Junior High, and he volunteered as a guardian to learn as much as possible about Utah's WW II veterans and bring those stories back to his class.
